Mom's in Scotland!!!!!!!

This seemed appropriate with the tomtom in the window.
(from your loving husband)

I know, this isn't the picture I wanted in here for today either, but the Welcome to Scotland sign was on the freeway, and there was no place to pull over so I could take a picture of us in front of it. We'll have to settle for a picture of us with city signs or something. Yes, Mom is in Scotland, at long last!

The cottage we are staying in is actually an upstairs apartment with a very friendly couple downstairs who own the house. The beds are comfortable and it looks like we will be able to get WARM water out of the shower. It's really a cute apartment, and best of all, it has lots of books in all the rooms. I could just find me a spot outside with the birds singing and sit and read all day. Yeah, right!

We had to drive around the outer edges of Glasgow to get out here to our cottage, which is actually in Croftamie. The cottage is called Tullycross Cottage. We were very glad to get out of Glasgow - VERY big city! Lots of very tall apartment buildings - looks like they really stuffed people into the city. Here, we're out in the country, with fields and sheep and farms all around us. Here in the cottage the owners have a little basket with all kinds of pamphlets and information about the area - we could stay here for a month and never get bored!

Don't have many pictures to show you today - we drove and drove all day. Stopped for lunch in Carlisle while we were still in England. It's close to the border - close to the Hadrian's Wall - more of that to come later, because we're going to go walk on that on our way back home.

Carlisle is the place Mary Queen of Scots invaded, and there's a lot of Roman stuff in the town. I'll put in some pictures of the town we walked through so you can see what it looks like.

And, here's our culture lesson for you - discovered a new and exciting way to wash your hands in a public toilet, water faucet, soap dispenser, AND hand dryer, all in one little hole in the wall! It was actually quite interesting!

Ok, I've got this blog updated, pictures entered, and I'm heading for bed. Should have lots more for you tomorrow. I was writing the blog in Word the whole time we were at the other cottage and didn't have internet, so at least all I had to do was add pictures. We should have pretty good internet access for most of the rest of our trip now. We're so happy to be back in touch!!

The sink is almost as cute a the swing out toilet was in Steve's Hospital Room.

Wait a minute! Josh is getting married?
Scotland!!! Ya hoooo!! Kind of a funky sink you got there. Is the toilet normal? Never mind. Don't answer that.
Take TONS of pictures. I will be camped at your house looking at pictures, if that's okay.

Herb,
I almost forgot about that until I read your comment. That was interesting, wasn't it?! The toilet was under the sink in Steve's coronary care unit, you opened up the cupboard and it was attached and swung out.
Thanks for the laugh Herb, and for reminding me about that!
Mom and Gayla.....still reading the blog and trying to catch up to your travels. How awesome it is for you both to be there! And I completely agree with Heidi, I KNOW that Dad is there with you both, sharing and watching over you. I have no doubt of that.
I know that Mom must miss him terribly, I hope that she can feel that he is there with you two!
I can't wait to see the pictures either!!
And it looks like I imagined it too. I would love to see England and Scotland and Ireland one day as well. I was watching "Far and Away" the other day, and that was filmed in Ireland. Also watched something about Scotland too, it looks a lot like Ireland.
Hey, I went and visited Preston yesterday, and told him about you guys being in England and Scotland, and he was telling me that he did some looking into the Galbraith family, said that they were a ruthless group way back, he said that there is still a Galbraith Castle, there in a loch, he said that it is on a island, and only a couple of walls are still standing. He said that it is overgrown now, the island is.
He also told me that the name Galbraith means "Sons of the Britons", that they were originally from England, and had escaped to Scotland, and changed their name to Galbraith. Anyway, that is what he was telling me.
He told me to tell everyone hello for him. He was excited that you were able to be over there.
So, have great fun, and I will continue to read the blog!
Love you both!
Oh, Sue has been emailing me and has sent me pictures of Fanny Hope and her family, pretty cool stuff.
She also has added me to her Woodgate family history website.
When she writes me, I can "hear" her accent, it is so cool. I absolutely love English accents!
Take care!
