Eastbourne, Sussex on the coast

Mostly travelled today - most of our sightseeing was done while in the car. Pam and Roger drove us here today. I don't even have any pictures to put in today because all we did was drive. We did stop in Royal Tundridge Wells and walked around the center of town and had lunch. It was interesting - it reminded me a lot of downtown Boise because the center of town has all these buildings where the tops of the buildings are the old part, and the bottom part has been renovated and remodeled to modern looking shops. The drive from there to here was beautiful - lots of big, old houses tucked back away from the road among the trees. The trees were so thick you could sometime just see flashes of the buildings as we drove past. There was one whole area where the trees were so thick and tall on both sides of the road that the trees met over the top of the road. They keep the trees trimmed so they're out of the way of the road, but you're driving through this beautiful, dark green tunnel of trees.

Eastbourne is where Sue lives, who is the one who originally called Mom and made contact. She and her husband have 2 dogs who both have decided that they love me - probably because I know how to scratch their ears. Eastbourne is by the coast, and I think tomorrow we're going to get to see it. We can sit here in their apartment and listen to the seagulls. While we're in this area is when we're going to have REAL fish and chips - can't wait!

This area, Sussex, is where the Hopes come from - here we'll be looking for Hopes, Colemans, Hooks, Wenhams (Wen'ams, I've learned) Goldsmiths, Everests, and even a Smith. We have lots of little areas to explore here: Waldron, Mayfield, East Hoathly, Laughton, Uckfield, Framfield, Withyham, Chiddingly, Hartfield. Lots of cool sounding places.

Pam and Sue are related on the Goldsmith part of the family tree. On Saturday Sue has organized a family gathering where she's hoping to get some of the older family members together and get information from them and maybe identify some people in pictures. Which reminds me - somehow, it doesn't seem fair that I spend a whole day traipsing through tall, wet grass, tripping on uneven ground, stumps, and holes, and getting excited to see a name I recognize on a gravestone, and Heidi just casually goes to the internet and tells me there are actually MORE Barbers in the graveyard! Sheesh! That's ok, Heidi - you just keep on looking!

I've decided I want to name my house when I get home - I love the tradition of naming houses around here - I'm looking for just the perfect name. I love to say Ipswich - sounds cool when I say it - so I was thinking of Ipswich Cottage. But Doug told me not to use that one - it's not a classy place. Just sounds good, I guess. He suggested something like Ickworth, because it's a place that's very upscale and classy, lots of art and culture stuff. Somehow, that name just doesn't do it for me. sigh. Guess I'll keep on looking.

Well, there's a yucky movie on TV and I can tell Mom wants an excuse to go to bed. Guess I'll finish up. More tomorrow, and more pictures. It's really fun to read your comments - Mom likes that more than knowing what I write in here! This stay here is going to be an interesting one - 2 big dogs, 1 very small apartment, and Sue's husband smokes - goes to the back door every hour or so, but the wind just blows the smell in. And he's got a cockney accent - harder for Mom to understand than the others were! hee hee hee gonna be fun!

I think that by the time the both of you get home we will be the ones with the accents. I found black rasberries this weekend, and made two cookings of jam last night.
We had roast and potatoes with carrots from the garden for supper.
Corey got sick in the middle of the night. When I called the school this morning, they said "Oh he's got it too." He is feeling better now, and should be back tomorrow.
We are doing salsa tonight, I got the stuff from Walmart, so we'll have to suffer. We might even get to the green beans depending on how Corey feels. (got them sorted last night)
I'm glad you both are having a good time.

Love You

Hello to Mom and Gayla! (and to you all who reads these;)
It is so fun to read everything and to see pictures with you in them. Post more of those. That first picture posted with you two together got me really excited that you REALLY REALLY were there!! I also realized that I missed you ;) I am so excited for you both and can't wait to see all the pics. Things are busy here in Idaho Falls and Jackson. I have worked both this week. I worked all 7 days since Ian and Tania have been in Hawaii being "wined and dined" by the 2 four season resorts on the Private island of Lanai. They want Ian over there to do the hotel(s) florals, as well as service the 35 private homes there that happen to belong to billionaires who want their houses full of flowers when they come to visit their houses. Not a single florist on the island of 3,000 people. Have to even ferry Leis over from Maui, so there is a ton of work available. Oh.. so they came back from Hawaii today, and they are going to do a 2 year contract, starting January! In 2 years, he will move on, but will move in a new crew to take his place. Sooooo, technically, I could easily be the next one if I wanted to. I know he would give me first dibs. Something to think about! Little island, about 13 by 22 miles, 98% philipino community. I already called Dit to see if she wanted a job. Haa haa! It is exciting tho! I am seriously considering taking spring break in March (when the fathers have their children!) to go and do a "working" vacation with them. They would have to let me sleep on their floor tho, because the 2 Four Season resorts are the ONLY hotels on the island. The rooms start at $495.00/ night. I think maybe a hammock on the beach might be ok too. Grin.
So alot of exciting things going on here! Kids are doing well, everyone is happy. I have been working a lot tho, but the nice thing with the overtime is that I am making enough to make it worth it. My last paycheck was as much in 2 weeks, as I made in Boise for the whole month (which means we can finally go grocery shopping conservatively) Don't get the wrong idea everyone! That will tell you how bad things were financially in Boise! I can see the light at the end of the tunnel despite that car repair that set me back. It is nice to be back where I can provide for my family with out biting all my nails off. ( I HATE to bite my nails!!)Lets hope no one moves the tunnel! GRIN
We got Kaiden's bday card yest. Mom, but I made the mistake of TELLING him it was here early and he has whined and cried for it ever since! Arg... But not to worry, I am a mean and rotten Mom, so we know I can hold out strong till the 19th. ONLY 10 MORE DAYS TO GO! Take care, and know that you both are in our prayers. Love Always, DaNae

I'm sorry Gayla! I was just trying to help! I'm sure being there and seeing it in person was much more exciting. And without your information I'd have never even known it was there to look up. I still haven't linked any of them to our family yet. My information kind of dead-ends on the Barber's in the 1800's. I thought all that was done, but guess not, unless Mom has more info than I have.

So, are you guys getting your emails? Did you guys get Cheralyn's email about Chris setting a baptism date?
